This week's signal: Shoptalk Spring starts in 6 days — and every major retailer has the same topic at the top of their agenda: agentic commerce. Best Buy is making its catalog AI-agent-friendly for ChatGPT and Google. Shopify's president calls agentic "the transformation of a lifetime." Quince just raised $500M at a $10.1B valuation. And the Section 122 tariff legal fights are escalating while Amazon's commingling deadline hits in 13 days. Here's your pre-Shoptalk briefing.

1. Shoptalk Spring in 6 Days: The Sessions That Will Define 2026
March 24–26, Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas. 10,000+ attendees, 180+ speakers, 50+ sessions. Every major breakfast session is agentic-commerce-focused: AWS/Amazon Shipping, Deloitte, and FedEx are leading morning sessions on agentic commerce, smart shipping, and retail logistics before the main stage opens.
Must-see keynotes: Bret Taylor (CEO of Sierra, Chairman of OpenAI) on "Sorting Agentic Hype from Reality." Steve Huffman (Reddit) on reshaping product discovery. Jessica Alba + YouTube Shopping's Travis Katz on creator-commerce. New Balance CEO Joe Preston on long-term brand building. Plus a structured debate: "AI Agents Will/Will Not Transform Retail" featuring e.l.f Beauty's CDO and eMarketer analysts.
Tactical sessions: AEO/GEO Lab (AI engine optimization — the new SEO), Building and Deploying AI Agents, and Setting AI Investment Priorities for Ecommerce. Shoptalk president Zia Wigder told ClickZ that DTC "as a complete growth model no longer holds up." We'll have full coverage next week.

2. Quince Raises $500M at $10.1B — The M2C Model Works
In a funding environment where consumer VC has fallen 47% from peak, Quince raised $500M Series E at $10.1B — more than doubling from $4.5B in early 2025. Iconiq led again, joined by DST Global, Baillie Gifford, and Wellington Management. Revenue topped $1B last year with triple-digit annual growth since launch.

Why it matters: Quince uses AI-driven weekly SKU-level demand forecasting, small-batch test production, and direct factory partnerships to sell cashmere at 70% below retail. The model eliminates intermediaries, excess production, and inventory risk. If you're sourcing through traditional wholesale, this is the structural competitor eating your margin — and investors just bet $10B it scales globally.

3. Best Buy + Shopify Go All-In: "The Transformation of a Lifetime"
Best Buy CEO Corie Barry announced the company is making BestBuy.com "agentic-friendly" — partnering with OpenAI to surface its catalog on ChatGPT, supporting Google's UCP for in-AI-Mode checkout, and becoming the first retailer to launch native checkout with AI platform Wizard. Its marketplace now has 1,100+ sellers with 90%+ seeing weekly sales. Best Buy reached its fastest-ever fulfillment: 70% of online orders within 2 days.
Shopify president Harley Finkelstein at the Upfront Summit called agentic "the transformation of a lifetime." His argument: agentic is merit-based, not popularity-based. When an agent knows you prefer On Running, it surfaces On directly — bypassing Foot Locker. Morgan Stanley predicts nearly half of online shoppers will use AI agents by 2030, accounting for ~25% of spending. McKinsey estimates agentic could redirect $3–5 trillion in global retail spend by 2030. The infrastructure is being built now.
